Embossed Spring Cards

Are you seeing more signs of Spring? Do you hear the birds chirping in the morning?

 I decided to make some cards celebrating the nature of Spring!
Hummingbird
 I was in the mood to make some super clean simple white cards. I cut the bird on a branch, the hummingbird and the flowers with the Silhouette die cut machine. I dry embossed some polka dots and a diamond pattern backgrounds, to add some texture to the muted color scheme.

I used some turquoise slanted striped paper for the actual cards. It adds a nice frame for the mats. I popped up all the die-cuts with thick double stick tape. Since it is spring I thought some bling was necessary so I stuck the rhinestones on the cards too.
 Below is what the inside of the flower card looks like. I love the phrase and was so happy that I could center it for the inside of the card. I love the cute springy honeycomb print on the inside of the cards too.

 So these cards have already flown the coop! Sent them off to a sweet friend, who loves spring as much as I do!!

Springtime Table Centerpiece

Do you ever wish you could bring some gorgeous springtime beauty inside your home?

All of the beautiful blooming trees in town inspired me to create a springtime centerpiece for my kitchen table.
I can honestly say that this center piece is "priceless" or rather it did not cost me a penny! Upcycling at its best! My friend Paula has two flowering plum trees in full bloom right outside of her front door. I "trimmed" three branches for her and brought them home to bring some spring inside. Thank you Paula, I don't think you could have bought me prettier flower!!
You might remember from my previous Springtime Mantel post when I mentioned that more seedlings where on the grow, well here they are, below is some cilantro and the next photo after the cilantro is some basil.

 I love trimming some fresh herbs when I cook. I am always using basil, cilantro and rosemary. These little pots are perfect for the window sill. You don't have to grow herbs from seed, you can find them already started at most garden shops right now. Just pop them in a cute pot!

 Yes I am getting more use out of the burlap chevron table runner.
 I am also re-using the wood CD crate that I used for my Easter centerpiece.
 Below are some glass jars that I spray painted chrome. I spray them at Christmas but never had a place for them until now. I tied some twine around the top of the jars, just wanted to keep it simple.

 In the picture below are some spray painted bottles. Confession time....I have a table in our garage full of things I want to spray paint!! Another thing my husband loves about me!!

 Almost every flowering tree in our area is in bloom. A week of clear blue skies ahead of us, I couldn't be more thankful.

 Just a few branches of blooms brought some spring inside our home. And yes it would have to be silk flowers for those of you who suffer from allergies! 
It can be a fun challenge to look at items around your home and use them in a new way or just move them to a different area. Or create a new grouping of things. OK you get the idea.

Toy Story Woody Frame


Howdy Partners! Have you seen the Toy Story Movies?  Can you pick a favorite? I love all three of them. Oh how I cried during the third one when Andy went off to college. My oldest son is rolling his eyes right now I am sure!


Here I am years later with another little boy in my life that loves Toy Story, or rather the characters Woody and Buzz. I babysit my neighbors grandson a day or two a week, he is my Toy Story buddy! So when I saw this paper at the scrapbook store, I knew it was perfect to make something special for him this Easter.


I already had the wood frame, I am sure I got it for $1 at Michael's years ago. It was already stained... (an unfinished Christmas project) ready to use. I bought a couple pieces of paper and the Woody sticker at the Scrapbook store. Don't you love it when you can get everything at one place?



Here is a Toy Story trivia question, who voiced the character Sid? The answer is at the bottom of this post.


First I traced around the frame and then cut the paper to size. I zigzag stitched some twine onto the paper. I thought it added a bit of western flair and texture. I used Mod Podge for an adhesive to glue the paper to the frame. I put Mod Podge on the frame and the back of the paper so it would really stick. I glue gunned some twine around where the picture goes too. I just stuck that picture of Woody and Buzz in the frame for these photographs, I thought the guys looked cute!


The frame was a hit with Mom and Dad! The little guy (2yrs old) liked the battery operated Buzz Lightyear pinwheel better than the frame....but I bet the frame will last longer!!!

The answer to my trivia question...Laurie Metcalf!! She also played Jackie, Rosanne's sister on the Roseanne show. That might not be news to anyone else.......don't know how that slipped by me all these years : )

Easter Tablescape Chevron Table Runner

  Greetings from MarvinsDaughters! Are you looking for some quick Easter ideas? Maybe I can inspire you. Today I have my own Easter tablescape to share with you.



I decided to go with a more vintage look for my Easter decor this year. No little ones hunting eggs here this year....but that didn't stop me from decorating some eggs.

 The whole display started with an old wood CD holder. I spray pained it white. Pulled out my Spanish moss, and went to work. I already had the cute carved bunny, I have been doodling with the eggs for a few days and I purchased the berry garland at Real Deals last week.


I guess I should back up and start with the burlap table runner.

I cut a long, 15" wide piece of burlap for my table runner. I knew I wanted to stencil a chevron pattern onto the table runner. So I got out the cream acrylic paint and well you know, I went to work!

In the photo below you can see how I frayed the edges on both sides.


I sewed a ruffle onto both ends of the table runner.


As you can see in the photos above I did both ends of the table runner a little different. One end I left plain just attaching the ruffle. On the other end I added some lace, ribbon and three burlap flowers I made. I just rolled up a long strip of burlap and glue gunned the bottom of the roll to make the flowers. I snipped them on the top too.

Next step in the tablescape project, clipping the berry garland up. I can't just buy garland and lay it down...I need to clip it! I find it easier to arrange that way.

Now for the eggs. These are plastic eggs, that I "aged". I saw this really cool egg display on Magia Mia (blog) and I knew I would be making my own version of them! I love these!! I am not going to do a tutorial for them because you really need to visit Magia Mia. This was her clever idea and I deserve no credit for this unique craft!! I did my eggs, using some fabric paint for the swirls, cream acrylic paint and brown acrylic paint for color. And that's all I am saying!!



Well I hope you have found some inspiration here. I am pretty happy with the way everything turned out. The only purchase I made was the berry garland and I got a 15% discount on it! Go ahead take a fresh look at your Easter decos and see what you come up with!

Easter Spring Mantel Decor


  Welcome paper lovers! Is Easter hoppin up on you? I have a few simple ideas for you today to add some Easter joy to your home.


Check out this simple banner I made in an afternoon. With the Silhouette die-cut machine I cut some bunnies out of chevron printed paper.

  Glued the bunnies to some small pieces of wood that I had previously sprayed with chalkboard paint. You could just use some black paper to glue the bunnies on, I already had the wood pieces ready to go, but paper would work just as well too.


I clipped each bunny to some twine and I was done!



Below I tried the bunnies on a display rack....but it wasn't quite working for me.


Then I remembered this frame (below) and gave it a try. I like this.


   Mmmmm I like both the banner and the frame, going to have to pick one! Or make more!


 Since there are no little ones wanting to dye eggs this year I decided to go simple.



 I painted the short candlesticks (below & above) white, and turned them into egg stands.


 Got that bunny at the dollar store!

   So now that the mantel is decorated and ready for Easter I have been working on the menu....haven't made my final recipe decision yet but the Hash Brown Quiche I found on the Better Homes and Gardens website is a serious contender!

 Our puppy Dexter wanted to show off his bunny impersonation......love this cute picture and our sweet bunny....I mean puppy!!!
