Fence Flowers

Thank you Patti and Paula for featuring this post at Ivy and Elephant!!! Make sure to visit their classy blog where they share their love of all things vintage.
Ivy and Elephants

Years ago my Mom picked up this fabulous framed planter at a garage sale.
I remember seeing it at her condo and hoping it was for me!
 Yea it was for me!!!
As much as I love it I have found it hard to keep plants alive in the small pots. Below is a picture from last year with some Alyssum growing in the pots. I had to water these little pots twice if not three times a day. If I missed a watering the plants would be near death.
So this year I went fake, fake flowers that is. I still can't believe I did it!!
I waited until Michaels had their silk flowers on sale for 40% off. Then shopping I went! I picked out all the dangling white flowers I could find and one fake creeping Jenny for some green.
So far they have fooled everyone who has seen them! I love it! People don't really look that close, not sure if that is a good thing or not. Of course I can't keep it secret. Why I am compelled to "confess" to people that they are fake flowers I don't know. I guess I feel like a "fake" gardener!
At first I thought I would have to put some Styrofoam in the pots and stick the stems into it, to hold them in place. But I ended up just folding the stems up and putting them in the pots without any Styrofoam. The pots are so small everything fits and stays put even on windy days.
The rest of my "real" flowers are thriving. Yes I added this last photo to prove to you I mean to show you that I do have some living plants!
Are you guilty of any garden embellishing? As a serious gardener it was a really hard choice for me to make, to go fake. Ultimately it was a decision made from frustration. Remembering to water those small pots several times a day aagghhhh, it drove me crazy!
Leave a comment and let me know if you have any garden secrets!
Thank you for stopping by, have a great day, Lori

  9. How pretty. I use silk plants outside on my deck...no one ever realizes what they are and it saves so much time watering in these hot, dry summer months.

  12. Plastic or PVC Fencing- These fences are generally high end (costly) products but due to their long lasting appearance and very low maintenance, are becoming very popular to day. Unless you enjoy staining your wood fence each year, this may be the way to go. Ypsilanti Fence company

  15. You're contributing to the effort to keep the wildlife at bay by regularly cultivating your garden, trimming your plants, and caring for them. Additionally, you are feeding and watering your plants and ensuring that they are all growing healthily together. As they become bigger, the canopies they form will shade one another and exchange nutrients.
